Every Friday on Maybe I’m Amazed is dedicated to inspiring you to be creative in different areas of your life. Sometimes that will mean fashion, creative cooking projects, crafts, or even features of other moms who are doing creative work at home or even professionally.
Today we’re focusing on an area every mom loves: How to take better pictures!
- Subscribe to a photography channel on Youtube
Learning how to take better pictures can take time But the easiest (and fastest) way for me to learn is to watch someone else explain how to take better pictures. I find that subscribing to a channel and then watching a video every week or so is incredibly helpful. To start, try Joe Edelmen or Professional Photography Tips.
- Check out my Pinterest boards!
I have boards on photography skills, poses for different shoots, baby shoots, and even food photography.
- Take time to learn about the way light changes your pictures!
You would be shocked to see what a difference lighting makes! There are a lot of great resources out there, but I found this list of six lighting tutorials very accessible and informative. Whether or not you have the lights, watching these videos gives you a understanding of how to manipulate lighting to make sure pictures turn out the way you want them to.Interested in outdoor pictures? This is also a really great resource that helped me understand outdoor lighting better.
- Improve your iPhone photos
Jamie Delaine Watson created this awesome list of ways to improve your iphone pictures.
- This Lightroom Course
I cannot recommend this course enough. I got a nicer camera when my son was born and the quality of the pictures is great, but sometimes the lighting looks weird. Now because I took this course, I know how to use Lightroom thanks to Beth at the Unskinny Boppy. Check out Beth’s blog for some free instruction as well, but this course was invaluable to me! Lightroom is a product from Adobe that professional and ameteur photographers alike use to edit photos. It’s a little intimidating at first when you use it, but it is leaps and bounds easier than Photoshop and takes your pictures from “decent” to “amazing” whether you’re printing them, sharing them on a blog, or just posting them on Instagram.
- Actually Learn How to Use Your DSLR
DSLR camera take incredible pictures, but it’s really intimidating at first, right? Check out this tutorial and look for others on Youtube or Pinterest. There are a million great resources out there!
- Consider another angle!
It is tempting to take a picture straight on, but you’d be shocked to see how much a change of angle improves the look of your pictures! Look at what a difference your perspective can make!
- Make a Photo Light Box!
Whether you blog or have an esty shop or anything like that, sometimes you need to get a more professional looking photograph of an item. The best way to do that is with a light box! Click here for a DIY photo light box or even purchase one on Amazon.
